One of the most asked questions from a client who has not had Hypnotherapy before is “You won’t make me cluck like a chicken will you?” It’s an ice breaker if nothing else!

Stage Hypnosis

Actually, I always explain that stage hypnosis is nothing like Hypnotherapy. A stage hypnotist will use the same core skills as a Hypnotherapist but will use them for entertainment and lead you to believe they have some kind of control over you. They are at the top of their game and will have run suggestibility tests on the audience without them realising and will only work with the most suggestible. The ones that make it to the stage will already be quite confident and gregarious personalities and therefore up for a laugh. In fact, the hypnotist does not have control of your mind and cannot make you do anything that does not fit with your moral landscape.

Hypnotherapy for Positive Change

Within Hypnotherapy we use the same core skills to induce a trance state, but it is done in a gentle, relaxing and client centred way and we then use this trance state to make therapeutic suggestions to help you change unwanted of limiting beliefs and behaviours. Hypnotherapy can help with a range of things from reducing stress and anxiety and learning to relax, achieving and maintaining a healthy weight, stopping smoking for good, helping you to achieve a calm and confident pregnancy and birth, teaching you how to overcome exam nerves and study calmly, sleep deeply and naturally and helping you overcome phobias and fears..

Becoming Consciously Aware of the Sub Conscious

Hypnotherapy deals with the subconscious mind the part that runs all your thoughts, behaviours, habits and beliefs. It automatically runs behaviour patterns without our conscious mind even noticing sometimes. When we try to change a behaviour using our conscious mind we are using our will power and often will have some success for a while, but it is difficult to sustain change as the desire for the unwanted behaviour will still be driven from the subconscious. However, if we make suggestions within trance for positive changes our subconscious can make fast and long-lasting changes that actually seem easy to make…no will power required!

Everyday Trance

Trance itself is not the magical mystical state you might believe it to be, it’s an altered state of consciousness that we all go into several times a day. You might recognise it as those moments when you are engrossed in a film or book and someone is talking to you and you simply don’t hear them or maybe that moment when on your normal drive home from work you pull up on the drive and suddenly wonder how you got there as you don’t remember joining the motorway or driving down the high street! You never get stuck in trance and in a session a Hypnotherapist will often bring you back to the here and now by counting up from 1 to 5 or they might simply suggest to your subconscious mind that you will bring yourself back gently as soon as you have updated your thinking software in the brain. It’s a very pleasant state and when used as a regular relaxation tool is so good for our emotional wellbeing.

Is There An Age Limit?

Hypnotherapy can help across a range of emotional issues and covers a wide demographic, in fact my youngest client has been 7 years old, a wonderfully creative and entertaining youngster with so much potential and my oldest was 85 an incredible lady who was determined and committed to making changes that went on to allow her to stay independent in her own home, she made a big impact on me. So you really are never too old to change unwanted behaviours that are limiting your life.

Next Steps

It can often be nerve-wracking thinking about talking to someone about a problem you have been experiencing and clients will often whisper to me “I think I’m going mad!” I will spend time first speaking to you on the phone to get an idea of your requirements to make sure I am the right fit for you. Then we will agree an appointment time where we will talk in more detail and formulate a treatment plan. I always include some gentle relaxation hypnotherapy in the first session, so you get to feel how calming and grounding it can be. I suggest to most clients to budget for 3 sessions as I can cover a lot in that time and teach you some great life skill techniques and strategies. Some clients will need more some may need less. I work at your pace and give you all the time you need. I work in a client centred and non-judgemental way and you can be sure our sessions will be fully confidential. I am an accredited member of The National Council for Hypnotherapy and uphold their code of conduct. I have a full enhanced DBS check and am able to work with young people.
