How it Works

Approach and areas of speciality
At the centre of my philosophy of care is the belief that physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life are closely interconnected and of equal importance. My work is holistic and integrative, using Jungian ideas and drawing from such influences as mind-body integrative medicine, mindfulness and meditation, coaching philosophy, inner child therapy, dream work and cognitive therapy to encourage the exploration of both unconscious and cognitive issues. This is facilitated in a collaborative atmosphere with an aim to develop personal awareness and creativity.
An individual’s therapy is personalised and sessions are tailored to each person’s needs and objectives (visits are typically twice a week).

Specialist Area of Expertise

Inner Child Therapy—Search for the real self
Based on the ground breaking work of John Bradshaw, with whom I have trained, I have developed a form of inner child therapy that can help people with a deeply wounded and shame based sense of self reconnect with their inner strength. This work helps people explore interests and creativity that may have been buried under layers of depressive self-limiting beliefs and incapacitating anxiety. We will work toward your gaining a sense of wholeness to change old patterns of self-destructive behaviour. This approach will facilitate your finding your own unique style, the courage to change, and the strength to face life’s challenges.

Life transitions
Problems can arrive from seemingly amazing life transitions such as the birth of a child or a move—or simply entering a new phase of life. For example; reaching a certain age makes one question the meaning and purpose of one’s life. Although marriage, retirement, getting a new job with greater responsibility, or becoming a parent, can each be positive changes, they may also bring new stresses, which you are unprepared for. Stress can come from the countless adjustments and burdens any transition brings—however welcome you are to each new transitional phase.
First time parents are often shocked at the massive upheaval in their lives their infant brings. And few people, especially young mothers, are prepared for the intensity of their feelings. Sleep lost to a crying baby, the need for constant vigilance, and other concerns that caring for a baby requires, can add up to a burden, which can temporarily outweigh the culturally expected joy. Additionally, the intensity of such feelings can bring huge stresses to domestic relationships.
Fortunately, transition difficulties are often short-lived changes that can be addressed through brief therapy. If you feel that your stress levels are too high or that you need a bit of breathing space, a brief period of therapy (in your own home, if desired, to fit in with your baby’s schedule) may be in order.

Personal performance and career enhancement
Many people have discovered that their core beliefs are shame based, and in a frantic attempt to achieve their goals they become “human doings”—the real self goes into hiding. Whether called your ‘inner child’, your ‘higher self’, or just ‘The Self’ (as Jung called it), you must reconnect with this hidden or abandoned part of yourself or risk living an unlived life, forever entangled in the knots of shoulds, oughts and musts, and lacking any true sense of who you really are. Shame is toxic. It is undeniable that negative emotions and beliefs greatly impact every aspect of our lives; particularly our personal performance. Anger (fear), stress, and anxiety make it hard for us to function at our best—both personally and professionally.
I work in the space between therapy and coaching drawing on different tools and disciplines to help you achieve personal and professional excellence. We will work collaboratively and explore together to uncover challenging insights as to what withholds you from reaching your full potential. Through the development of your emotional self-awareness you will be able to recognise self-defeating blocks, behaviour patterns, thoughts and feelings. With this ability you will be able to focus on making the changes necessary to achieve your personal and professional goals.
Change does not happen over night and re-discovery takes time, patience, and practice.

Supervision & Mentoring
Acquiring new skills is a delicate task, and I can offer a supportive yet challenging space for both experienced and therapists in training. With more than 20 years of counselling experience as well as more than 10 years experience as an assessor for BACP accreditation, I can offer you the space, time and professional support to develop your thoughts and confidence as a counsellor enabling you to successfully succeed in this highly specific process. Exploring and strengthening the interplay between coaching, supervision and mentoring based on cross-theoretical models, is reflected in both my clinical and supervisory work.
